Intranet Peers in Government is an informal community of practice that brings together hands-on intranet
managers from across the public sector.
Membership is open to all public-sector and non-profit organisations, including:
- Federal government agencies
- State agencies across Australia
- Educational bodies
- Local government, including councils
- Other agencies or non-profit organisations
Note: membership has now been opened up to public-sector organisations worldwide,
although activities are currently focused primarily on those located in Australia.
One of the greatest challenges facing intranet managers is overcoming the isolation, and discovering how others
are tackling the same problems.
The primary goal of the group is to allow you to meet other intranet managers, as well as giving
the opportunity for further networking and group activities.
It will also allow you to share best practice, benchmark your intranet, and find out how other
similar organisations tackle intranet issues.
Membership of Intranet Peers in Government group is free, and there are a range of activities
conducted, both online and face-to-face.

Intranet Peers forums
In addition to the mailing list, two-day forums are held every quarter in a different capital city. These are
facilitated by James Robertson of Step Two Designs, and are always both enjoyable and stimulating.
Monthly meetings
Monthly face-to-face meetings are currently held in Canberra, with other states to follow. These include a
presentation from one of the group members, and an opportunity to discuss and network with your peers.
For details on the upcoming meetings, please join the online mailing list.

Online mailing list
An online mailing list has been established to facilitate conversations between members from across Australia. This
has been running since November 2002, and now has a critical mass of members and activity.
You can join online at YahooGroups.
Three big reasons to join:
- You will get in touch with others confronting the same intranet challenges as you.
- You can browse screenshots of other intranets, posted by the list members.
- You will hear about the informal get-togethers currently being organised in major capital cities.
(Note: you will need to register using your work e-mail address, to help restrict membership to just public-sector
participants.)
If you have any problems with YahooGroups, just send an e-mail to James Robertson, the list
administrator.
